NIC relies on the passion and commitment of its volunteer leaders to advance its mission of enabling access and choice for America’s older adults. Volunteering with NIC provides the opportunity to:   

  • Give back to the senior housing and care industry
  • Network and collaborate with other subject matter experts
  • Partner with NIC staff to accomplish our strategic objectives

Volunteer Benefits

NIC volunteers influence the evolution of the senior housing and care industry and work with best-in-class peers, experience exclusive networking opportunities with other subject matter experts; identify business opportunities; and promote their companies through NIC. Board and Committee members are recognized with their headshot and bios on the NIC website and in connection with NIC events and publications.

Serve on a Board

  • Board of Directors: governing body of the organization responsible for the ultimate direction of the management of NIC’s affairs.
  • Operator Advisory Board (OAB): provide advice to the Board of Directors regarding NIC’s educational programming, research, and information from the operator perspective.

Implementation Committees: develop plans, programming, and initiatives for:

Focus Area Committees: provide advice, guidance, and recommendations on conference programming; research, data, and analytics; NIC Academy offerings; and new target audiences related to NIC’s five strategic focus areas:

Content Contributors: provide subject matter expertise to develop and deliver publications, live or virtual event content, and online curriculum.

Develop as a Leader

Future Leaders Council (FLC)contribute to the work of NIC committees and task forces, develop volunteer leadership skills, and form meaningful professional relationships with current NIC leaders while functioning as an extension of the Board. The selection of FLC members is a highly competitive nomination and selection process.

Volunteer Expectations

Committee members are expected to attend Committee meetings; attend at least one in-person NIC conference per year; and promote and support attendance at conferences and enrollment in NIC Academy educational programs for new target audiences. Members may also be requested to present or refer speakers for conferences and podcasts and to contribute articles for NIC publications.
