Annapolis, Md. – The National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing & Care Industry (NIC) is adding a new event to its conference lineup. Starting in 2009, the nonprofit group will be the new organizer of the former National Medicaid/Medicare Conference (NMMC). The event, which will be renamed and repositioned as the NIC Southeast Regional Symposium, will debut later in 2009.

“NIC is understandably proud to assume responsibility for this first-class event,” said Robert G. Kramer, president of NIC. “Its purpose, created to give operators and financiers the information they need to stay competitive in the skilled nursing sector, has been unique in its contribution to the seniors housing and care industry.”

The NMMC was developed by HealthTrust, LLC, under the leadership of Senior Partner Alan C. Plush. The first NMMC Conference was held in 1993 and has been an important annual event ever since. “Since its inception, our conference has attracted industry leaders who want to learn the emerging trends on Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement, as well as operating metrics, mergers and acquisitions, insurance and legal issues,” explained Plush.

“Not many non-profit organizations can survive long without sponsors who don’t see value in what they provide,” said Kramer. “Much of NMMC’s success has been due to the commitment of loyal sponsors that have recognized its importance and have therefore continued to support NMMC over the years.”

At the 12th Annual NMMC Conference this past February, the 2008 NMMC Executive Sponsors included HealthTrust, LLC, Contemporary Healthcare Capital, LLC, HealthCare REIT, Inc., RED CAPITAL GROUP, and Merrill Lynch. The 2008 NMMC Gold Sponsors were RBS Greenwich Capital, PRN Capital/The Survey Companies, LaSalle Bank, GE Healthcare Financial Services, CapitalSource, Capmark Finance Inc., Commerce Bank, Sovereign Bank and CIT Healthcare.

Starting in 2009, NIC will take over as the new host of the annual event. Although the purpose of the conference will remain the same, it will get a new name and be relaunched as the NIC Southeast Regional Symposium. The first Symposium will take place in late 2009, with dates and location to be announced later this year.

The NIC Southeast Regional Symposium will join NIC’s current slate of conferences developed exclusively for operators and financiers in the seniors housing and care industry. The Annual NIC Conference, now in its 18th year, is recognized as the industry’s most important deal-making event for operators and financiers. The NIC Western Regional Symposium, which debuted in 2006 and is held each spring, is specially designed for operators and lenders with smaller or regionally based portfolios.
