Annapolis, Md. – The National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing & Care Industry (NIC) today announced the establishment of the NIC Future Leaders Council, an initiative created to groom the next generation of leaders in the senior living industry. The announcement was made during the luncheon plenary session at the 19th Annual NIC Conference held in Chicago, Ill.
“As demand increases for housing and care to serve an aging population, so does the need for fresh thinking to handle the unique challenges and opportunities it presents for our industry,” said Robert G. Kramer, president of NIC. “In response, we developed the NIC Future Leaders Council to prepare tomorrow’s leaders to face what lies ahead, help grow the industry and positively impact America’s seniors.”
NIC selected 21 “founding members” for its Future Leaders Council, who will serve up to three years. They represent some of seniors housing and care’s top providers, financial institutions, and intermediaries. (See the following list of founding members.)
“We have high expectations for this talented group of individuals, who are already rising leaders in their organizations,” said Kramer. “As part of their participation, they will serve on NIC committees and task forces, as well as on specific projects that benefit the industry and NIC. The NIC Future Leaders Council will gather formally as a group at major NIC events to discuss current issues, share ideas and recent successes, and ask questions of fellow members and industry leaders.”
To become a member of the Council, individuals were nominated by employers who have served on NIC’s Board of Directors or Operator Advisory Board or have been a key NIC sponsor. Candidates must also have five or more years of relevant experience in the seniors housing and care industry; possess a desire to grow within their companies and the industry; exhibit strong leadership potential; and demonstrate the ability to think creatively and strategically about industry issues.
The idea for the NIC Future Leaders Council was the result of input from current and past chairs of NIC’s Board of Directors. In addition, a cadre of respected industry professionals will guide the Council. This oversight committee consists of Philip Brooks, senior vice president, Capmark Finance Inc. (co-chair); Raymond J. Lewis, executive vice president and chief investment officer, Ventas, Inc. (co-chair); Allen Lynch, attorney, Nixon Peabody LLP; Judy L. Marczewski, CFO, One Eighty; and Robert Kramer.
The first gathering of Council members took place this week at a Council launch meeting with NIC leadership just prior to the NIC Conference. Speaker John Cobb, the 37-year-old president and CEO of Senior Lifestyle Corporation, gave his insights on “Growing through Relationships.” The group also met yesterday in its first meeting as a council to set the agenda for future gatherings.
