Annapolis, Md. – Penny Pritzker, CEO of Pritzker Realty Group and founder of Classic Residence by Hyatt, and Ben Stein, well-known economist and humorist, will deliver the keynote addresses at the 19th Annual NIC Conference, as announced today by the National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing & Care Industry (NIC). Recognized as the industry’s top dealmaking event, it brings together seniors housing and care providers, financiers and developers, with portfolios ranging from international and national to regional and community-based portfolios.

This year’s conference will return to the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers in Chicago, Ill., on September 23-25, 2009. The theme will be: “Succeeding in a Capital-Constrained Environment: Emerging Stronger, Smarter, Better.”

“In a market where fewer deals are getting done and capital is difficult to access, opportunities for networking become even more important,” said Robert G. Kramer, president of NIC. “In addition, access to reliable data takes on greater significance. Our conference provides dedicated opportunities to connect capital with providers looking to refinance, expand, develop or renovate properties. Attendees will get the latest data results from NIC MAP’s expansion into the top 100 metro markets and advice from peers on how to best operate in this constrained environment.”

On Thursday morning, September 24, Penny Pritzker will address attendees at the opening plenary session. Her talk will focus on the economy, the new Administration’s recovery efforts and the state of the seniors housing market.

Known for her savvy as a corporate business leader for more than twenty years, Pritzker will speak as a member of the President’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board, an outside group of experts who advise the President on economic policies, and as former national finance chair of President Obama’s campaign. At the same time, her experience as one of the industry’s top operators provides her with real insights as to what these policies may mean for seniors housing and care professionals during these unprecedented times.

In 1987, Pritzker founded Classic Residence by Hyatt. Under her leadership as chairman and CEO, the company has grown to 20 communities in 11 states. Pritzker also serves as chairman of the board of three other companies as well: TransUnion, The Parking Spot and Pritzker Realty.

Also on Thursday, September 24, Ben Stein will be the featured speaker at the networking luncheon. His talk, “Ben Stein on the Economy,” gives a unique look at the capital markets. Described as either the funniest well-known economist or the most economically insightful humorist, Stein is also one of the most respected individuals on the subject of economics today.

A graduate of economics at Columbia and law and economics at Yale Law School – where he graduated as valedictorian – Stein has since served as a lawyer and university teacher, as well as a speech writer and economic advisor for Presidents Nixon and Ford.

Stein is also a best-selling author of a series of finance and self-help books, a columnist for The New York Times, and a regular commentator for CBS Sunday Morning, Larry King Live on CNN, Fox News and Yahoo! Finance. He also has been a columnist for The Wall Street Journal, a screen and TV writer, and has been writing a diary for The American Spectator for over twenty years. In 2008, he won The Malcolm Forbes Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting for his economics writing.

Attendees will also have many opportunities to network and conduct business. Along with a dedicated Networking Lounge available throughout the event, a reception will be held both evenings. In addition, breakout sessions on financing topics and operating performance issues, as well as demonstrations on how to use NIC MAP® data will be held on Thursday and Friday, September 24 and 25, 2009.

Attendance for the 19th Annual NIC Conference is limited to the first 1,600 registrants and space tends to fill up by mid-summer. Registration fees range from $1,000 (for operators with 1-10 properties) to $1,750. After August 6, 2009, registration fees will increase by $200.
